Dr. Mark G. Luker joined RMOA in 1998 after completing his fellowship in Sports Medicine. He specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries to the knee and shoulder joints. His surgical practice is focused on minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques and knee and shoulder joint replacement. Dr. Luker continues to serve as a team physician for all four Grand Valley high schools and runs a Sports Injury Screening Clinic for high school athletes during the school year.
Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2000, he completed the re-certification and examination process in 2010.
Dr. Luker’s guiding values in patient care are excellence, honesty, and shared decision-making. A perfectionist in the OR and the office, he is committed to making an accurate diagnosis, then providing you with evidence-based information and deciding with you what’s best for you, taking into account your desires, expectations, and special circumstances.
As a boy growing up in Pennsylvania, Dr. Luker wanted to be a cowboy (and still does). He and his wife, Sarah, moved west to escape the crowds and live in the “wide-open spaces” of God’s creation. Life in Grand Junction suits his family well; they remain active fishing, hunting, skiing, cycling and playing a lot of lacrosse.

Clinics and Appointment Scheduling
As a specialist in orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Luker spends significant time in the OR and making rounds on his patients in the hospital. Because of this he is only available in clinic approximately two and a half days per week. As a surgeon on active staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center, he is also required to take trauma calls. We ask your patience and understanding if your appointment has to be rescheduled or is delayed due to an emergency.

Dr. Luker performed left shoulder replacement surgery for me in 2007 to repair a previous injury. This surgery gave me the use of my left arm back and I was able to go on with my life free from shoulder pain. In 2014 I sustained a tear in meniscus cartilage in my left knee. Dr. Luker performed arthroscopic surgery on my knee and in just two weeks I had the use of my knee back again. I cannot say enough good thinks about Dr. Luker and RMOA. They are the best.

In 1988 due to ongoing knee problems my kneecap was removed. The doctor in Arizona did not stabilize my patella tendon, so for 12 years I continued to have knee problems. In 2000 I made a very expensive trip to Vail and with promises that I would be “good as new”. It was not to be. After hearing many recommendations about Dr. Luker, I made an appointment. I had surgery in September 2002 and after a few months of therapy, I began to get my life back. I can now do things I haven’t been able to do for over 20 years including downhill skiing! Thank you Dr. Luker for caring enough to figure it out. I am truly your biggest Fan!

Dr. Luker performed a total shoulder replacement for my left arm. I am now seven months post-surgery, sixty one years of age. Before the surgery, I had significant pain of which injections did not help, PT that helped with pain management and somewhat maintaining of my range of motion of which I had lost quite a bit. My husband and I noticed that I was becoming ever more protective of my left side to the point of slouching and avoiding use to some degree. My quality of life was being impacted and I wasn’t able to do many things I loved and needed to do. Dr. Luker was straightforward with options, worked with me for about a year and when I was ready to have a replacement, he and his staff were knowledgeable and helped me understand the process. Between the successful surgery, physical therapy and religious follow-through with my exercises, I have more range of motion than before the surgery, my strength is getting better each day and my quality of life is great. I can lift and play with my granddaughters, hit a golf ball with more accuracy than before, and generally am a happier person due to the relief of pain and increased mobility. Thank you Dr. Luker and staff for helping me find the fun in life again. You are true professionals.

Dr. Mark Luker replaced my right knee. After 4 months I am playing golf and just enjoying life. After one month I was back to work. I am excited with the knee replacement and extremely pleased with Dr. Luker and his staff. Follow what he tells you to do and get the physical therapy done and stick with it. What a first class operation!!!

I have had shoulder pain for as long as I can remember. The pain got in the way of being able to dance, play sports, or do daily things. Dr. Luker was able to figure out the problem and did a great job with my surgery. I now can enjoy life without hurting. Thank you so much Dr. Luker and RMOA.

For at least 3 years I went through terrible pain in my shoulder. Tired of the pain and lack of sleep, I made the decision to have surgery on my shoulder with Dr. Luker. The surgery went very well. By following Dr. Luker’s instructions as well as working with a therapist at RMOA, I healed quickly. I was able to go back to work within 4 weeks of the surgery and my shoulder is doing great. Dr. Luker and his team have more than met my expectations.

Dr. Mark Luker gave me a new knee and a new lease on life. Chronic pain is so limiting and I now have the freedom to hike with my husband, walk our dogs, move without thinking of “how am I going to do this without hurting?” I cannot thank Dr. Luker, Daryl and RMOA enough for this gift.
– Sheila S.
I have seen Dr. Luker previously and received excellent care then and this time. My problem and options were well explained.

Dr. Luker has replaced both my shoulders and one of my knees. He will soon be doing my other knee. I am very satisfied with the results. He is the best in knowledge and personality. He has also treated many of my friends
– Marie W.
I have been a patient of RMOA for many years. In 1982, I had surgery to repair a fractured radius (left arm) with Dr. Fisher. I began seeing Dr. Luker at least 20 years ago, I believe, for a shoulder issue. After that, I saw him for issues with my knees. In 2014, Dr. Luker repaired severe rotator cuff damage (right shoulder) and last year, 2016, he replaced both my knees. I admire Dr. Luker so much. He has wonderful surgical skills. He is also forthright and honest about procedures and expectations. Both Dr. Luker and Daryl Hahn have given me the finest of medical care. I have and will continue to recommend them to friends who have orthopedic issues. I give Dr. Luker and Daryl Hahn A++ ratings….
[edit: additional comments by same person] I have to add some additional comments because I realized I said nothing earlier about my stellar results from my recent surgeries. First, I was not promised the moon. I was given realistic expectations, and the results of both my shoulder and my knees’ surgeries far exceeded my expectations. I am able to do things I’d forgotten I enjoyed doing before experiencing the chronic pain. Thank you Dr. Luker, Daryl, and Kaycee for giving me the ability to live on without pain, to move without fear and trepidation, and to enjoy every day i am blessed with. My sincerest gratitude to you all.
