Schedule body fat measurements during Gold's Gym Challenge

Get the most precise body fat measurements possible!

The Rocky Mountain Orthopaedics Sports Medicine Team, in coordination with Gold’s Gym Challenge, is now offering body fat analysis using Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA).

What are the benefits from using DEXA to assess body fat?

  • DEXA is the most accurate method to assess body fat.
    • Much better than skin fold tests, bioelectrical impedance analysis, BMI calculations, waist circumference and others
  • Provides detailed analysis of WHERE your body fat is located.
    • Individuals with increased abdominal fat (versus peripheral fat) are at higher risk for serious diseases like diabetes and heart disease.
  • Will also directly measure and calculate total fat, lean tissue, and bone density.

What are the risks of using DEXA to assess body fat?

  • Very low.  A DEXA exam exposes someone to about 1/1000th of the radiation from a CT scan.  The radiation exposure is less than a flight from Los Angeles to New York City!  (Despite this, we will not scan you if you are or may be pregnant.)

How can you get your body fat analysis?

  • Speak with your Gold’s Gym Trainer and then contact Rocky Mountain Orthopaedic Associates to schedule a body fat analysis DEXA scan (BMI).
  • The cost is $35 for a single measurement or $50 which entitles you to both an initial measurement and a follow-up scan within 6 months as well.  Payment in full is expected at the time of your first appointment.
  • Appointments are offered 7-9am Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Plan 20 minutes per scan.
  • Wear loose clothing, no jewelry, no metal zippers or metal buttons on clothing.
