Rocky Mountain Orthopaedic Associates (RMOA) has teamed up with Ascent Productions and Livetrainrace.com to establish a series of bicycle road races.
The Grand Junction Criterium Series is set to begin March 31 with subsequent races on April 7, 14, 21, and 28 as well as May 5. The USA Cycling sanctioned races will start at 5:30 p.m. at the RMOA building at 627 25 1/2 Road.
Participants can sign up at www.livetrainrace.com or just before the races at the RMOA building. Since fields are limited to 100 riders, early registration is suggested.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for road racers from across the Grand Valley, the Western Slope and even those in Utah to participate in a high-level race," said Dr. Richard Price, a sports medicine physician with RMOA and a racer himself. "We can't wait to get this event going and hopefully watch it grow into something bigger."
Chris Reed of Ascent Productions said the Grand Junction Criterium will bring a formalized road racing program to Western Colorado. "We're also excited to have RMOA as one of the organizers, including providing on-site medical care."
Mike Driver of Livetrainrace.com said, "We are encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle through events like this."
RMOA offers diagnosis and treatment of injuries and diseases of the bones, joints and muscles, including arthroscopy, fracture care, foot and hand surgery, sports medicine, and total joint replacement. RMOA operates offices in Grand Junction as well as in Delta, Fruita and Rangely. For more information, log on to the Web site at www.rmoadocs.com.
